PHYSFS is not very nice/sane to use IMO, and the writeDir options interfering with exists() are not justified (why should try to find /home/USER/.sumwars/usr/share/game/sumwars etc...? There is no way to find something by absolute path after setting the writing dir). Now it should really work well in Unix when specifying CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX when building with cmake, so in this way people can install in Unix into /opt or /usr/local and not just /usr
